It's pretty hard to improve conditioning in the condensed schedule they had post covid break.

I don't think the forwards have become slower - they were slower before. But they aren't a really fast group either. The only real speedster is Dube. Coleman and Jarnkrok have good but not blinding speed. Gaudreau, Backlund, Mangiapane and Lindholm are slightly slower but still NHL calibre. Lewis is OK.
Toffoli, Monahan, Tkachuk and Lucic are slow.

The problem is more that the best speed is not among scoring forwards.
