This is bull ####. When Crosby signed his deal it was on a now illegal back-diving structure (12 years, by the way, not 10), and it represented 14.5% of the salary cap. In today’s NHL that contract would carry an $11.8 m cap hit at minimum. Crosby will earn $104 m on his current contract. To make the same money in today’s NHL would require—not factoring into consideration six years inflation—on a maximum term deal a cap hit of $13 m.
