Meh, I've been using Expedia and the like for the past decade and never had any issues. Most times there's better deals for hotels too.
Any time I have an inquiry or request, I just call the hotel directly anyway, I've never contacted Expedia support other than cancellations.
For flights, you can get creative and use the search engines like Kayak to find the best deals. Saves you $50-100 maybe, up to you if it's worth your time haha.
