I don't know if it fits your decor or what your wife has in mind but I recently stumbled upon the Samsung Serif TV. It's not cheap for what it is but in a room where the TV doesn't get used all the time it's far nicer to look at than most TV's.
Samsung also has a new range of picture frame wall hung TV's that display art when they're off that again are nicer to look at than your standard TV.
