And if the criteria is to include only bands that started out as independent even though they may have released music on major labels later, then you'd think Smells Like Teen Spirit would rank high on such a list but it doesn't even appear. And The Smiths appear on the list but not, say, The Cure or Echo and the Bunnymen. Not that any of this matters. I spent way too much time trying to decipher this list.

I have no idea what the criteria are but indie is a pretty nebulous term these days. It's more about a sound than it is about being on an independent label.
