This is a really good call too.
Cannery brewing is an awesome hangout with some really nice beer.
Bad Tattoo's beer is really good as well, and their pizza is pricey but excellent.
Slackwater has hopefully gotten better since I went there (they were really new then).
Old Order distillery is a super cool little spot too, with some nice mixed drinks and a chill vibe, basically right next to Slackwater.
Bonus:
you can drink your beer/wine/gin on Penticton's main beach.
