I'll start things off:

I am planning to go to Vegas Aug 10-15th for a shopping trip, in advance of a trip to Europe in the fall, so that my wife can shop for the trip. Essentially a pre-trip shoppping...trip?

(yo dog, I heard you like to trip, so I put a trip on your trip so we can trip while you trip.)

My questions for the Vegas-veterans:

Where does everyone find the best "flight and hotel on the strip" deals?

Is it worth renting a car to do shopping at the outlets and malls, or are cabs cheaper?

What are some hidden gems near the strip people like (shows, events, things to see, etc) for realative Vegas newbs? Wife has been once as a child and I went as a 19 year old who's only memory is loathing how I could gamble in Calgary but not in Vegas.
