I'm pretty much the same size, and when I feel threatened, I just posture up, walk fast, and have an angry scowl on my face (my wife calls it mean muggin' too!) No vagrant ever gets in the way or asks for anything. Then again I live in Edmonton, so this is constant game face whenever leaving your own home.
