I wish I could tell you it was going to be easy, but just know that we have the ability to give our pets a great gift--and that is to spare them the suffering of a protracted and painful death.

One thing I can't complain about is how peacefully my buddy passed away. He just closed his eyes and went to sleep--and my wife says that at the moment that the light left his eyes, she felt in her heart that he was at peace, finally. We should all pray for such a peaceful and dignified end of life.

But part of you will rebel against the idea of it. Part of you will feel horrible inside--and that's the burden we have to bear, I guess. Good luck, and I feel for you. In some ways the uncertainty leading up to the decision is very hard.
