It occurs to me that no one has won the game of Survivor for a very long time without 2 things happening. One must be at least somewhat adept at challenges whether it be athletically or intellectually and one must be able to find an idol or know someone who does find one during the game.
Sounds like a set of skills a former military man may find beneficial.
