Again, say what you want about the doors as a feature of the car, but the innovation Tesla is brining to the car industry outweighs every traditional manufacturer combined. Look no further than the number of TV ads for cars with 'backup cameras!' to understand how terrible car companies have been at improving the industry in technology, safety, emissions.. Anything really.
Best part about the backup camera push is it was legislated to be mandatory, somehow is a looked at as a selling feature.

That quote is exactly why I think it's dumb. I can't imagine how expensive those doors will be to fix once your warranty ends cause by the sounds of it, you won't be able to use any parts from any other door. You'll be stuck paying out the ass to Tesla for their special patented crap that is only used on this one niche model of car. Hate it. HATE stuff like that.
A back up camera serves a purpose. A door that opens up instead of swinging or sliding is just a needlessly complicated gimmick and it sounds like they're proud of just how expensive and inefficient maintaining it will be once your warranty ends.
