Consider that the pandemic has only been going on since early-2020 and most of us are old enough to remember every console launch as far back as the PS1.
So yes, it is bizarre in the context of literally every other product launch outside of the pandemic. The pandemic produced the conditions that have resulted in this situation where you can't easily buy a product that has been on the market for two years now. And that is... y'know,
