Someone asked why the Flames goaltending prospects were struggling last season and Treliving responded that while the Flames haven't done a very good job with goalie development, they have developed Rittich, even though he wasn't drafted by the team.
He went on to say the development is not always a smooth progression, there are ups and downs. He mentioned Gillies had a really bad start to the season and Parsons fought through injuries and mental illness. He also mentioned McDonald, Schneider and the Russian goalie and that having more "lottery tickets" (goalie prospects) the better the chance that one or two of them will emerge as NHL goaltenders.
