Word of caution though, you can't actually tether the iPad and iPhone together unless you jailbreak the iPhone. CSRs will tell you all kinds of interesting things to get you to lean a certain way.
One of my favourites was last Friday at a Rogers store, when one of them was telling a customer that they should get a bigger data plan because "the iPhone 4 has a much higher resolution, so it uses a lot more data."
