Some people get turned off by it being more traditional sushi, but this fusion stuff to me is out of control.
Zipang is all about quality. The pieces are reasonable/fair sized, but the quality is outstanding for Calgary. Plus they are kid friendly too.
I like Shikiji, I get their bento for take out lunch now and again. I don't find the quality anywhere near Zipang level but it is a solid lunch.
I hate Kinjo. Gross.
Wa's (W6!) was probably the best place until it closed. So sad.
I might try Red Ember since it is nearby and has flown under the radar for me. I keep going back to Zipang though, they never let me down.
A bit of derail, but I find Vancouver Sushi to be the most over hyped sushi on the planet. I was there in August and every highly rated place we went to was mediocre. San Fran/Honolulu, now those are Sushi towns.
