Nothing is going to get done on guns because the NRA and the GOP are in bed together.

There was a scandal in recent months that involved guns - Fast and Furious.

The ATF started keeping track of young men in Arizona that would buy dozens of assault rifles and then re-selling them to Mexican drug cartels. Many wanted to arrest and prosecute these "gun-runners" but the courts (judges & prosecutors) wouldn't file charges against legal gun owners. So the program remained and these guns were used to kill American border agents at which point it became scandal.

Why wouldn't Arizona prosecute cases as requested by the ATF?
Likely because the NRA would have crushed their electability with their "grades" for elected officials - these judges are evaluated by the NRA for their gun-friendliness.

Judges aren't the only group judged, Congressmen are as well. The NRA "scores" their gun friendliness and campaigns accordingly.
The Republicans blamed the Fast and Furious scandal on Eric Holder (somehow), and the NRA scored the vote.

Nation[/URL]]The Republican-led House, acting in lockstep with the NRA, twisted the facts of the ill-fated gun trafficking investigation in Phoenix to complete almost every item on its political To Do list. It used the scandal to bludgeon and destabilize the ATF, the agency charged with enforcing the nation’s gun laws. It diverted attention from the ineffective gun laws that made the ATF’s job in Fast and Furious nearly impossible. And it emerged with a cherished talking point: that the gun laws on the books right now are more than adequate, and it’s only their enforcement that has flaws.
Why did the NRA score the vote?
