Coal is dead in Ontario, having been effectively replaced by upgraded nuclear plants a few years ago.

Biomass is a controversial topic. It's probably fine if all it did was burn waste or wood that can't be used for any other purpose. But the scale of human energy usage is so high that there are concerns that forests are being cut down for the purpose of being burnt in biomass plants.
