Default 2014-15 Flames' NCAA Prospects, General Discussion Thread

With Gaudreau and Arnold joining the Flames, Boston College is no longer on the list of teams to follow for Flames fans during this year's NCAA season. The drafting of Brandon Hickey means that Boston University is now on the list of teams to follow.

Here are the NCAA teams with Flames picks on their rosters:
A couple of preseason polls have been released this week, and Providence was chosen as the preseason favourite to win Hockey East this season; and Colgate was picked to win ECAC.

Last season was a disappointing one for Deblouw, who struggled as a sophomore, after a solid freshman year. Will he be able to regain his form and showcase his skills as a solid defensive centre?

Harrison was used sparingly during his freshman season on a Colgate roster that relied heavily on its upper-classmen. His role should increase this season, and we should be able to see more of what he's capable of.

Gillies had a great start to the season last year, and looked like he was as ready to turn pro as that other kid named John. He suffered a minor injury either just before or at the World Juniors and didn't really return to form until just before the playoffs. He backstopped the Friars to their first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2001 (shutting out Quinnipiac); and allowed the fewest goals to the eventual National Champions, Union, as any goalie in the tournament. With a strong season, this could be the third straight year that a Flames' pick with the initials JG makes it to the Hobey Baker Final Three.

If the rumours from the summer are true, Jankowski has crossed the 200 pound threshold, and could be shaping into the power forward we all hope he can become.

Gilmour was a solid defenceman for the Friars last season, and still has the potential to possibly make it as a pro.

Hickey is starting his college career as a Boston Terrier after playing the last couple of seasons with Spruce Grove of the AJHL. He will be a teammate of highly-touted prospect, Jack Eichel, at BU this season. Depending on how the Flames' season goes, Eichel might be another reason to follow the Terriers this season.
