Actually OT was not part of the regular season until 83/84 iirc.
It was win, loss or tie.
Which is why the Flames are a .500 team now or 50 years ago. OT/SO losses just replaced tie games.
1-0-1 now.......1 win 1 loss. 3 pts.
1-0-1 then......1 win 1 tie 3pts.
