Update - I dug the previous fence post out and got down to approximately 30" before I was stymied by a watermelon sized boulder. No gas line in sight. Could have been to the left of where the hole was dug, it remains a mystery. New fence post is in and I am sunburnt after spending three days digging 7 post holes.
