Which is what makes this whole ordeal complex, and it's not black and white.
I think that if these terms are of endearment, then those that are suppose to be represented for the most part take no issue with it. Eskimos, Blackhawks, Braves, Seminoles are terms that in my opinion make you think of aboriginals fondly. Kinda like Fighting Irish for the Norte Dame team. We're not taking issue with them in this debate.
The only people's opinion that matters on this is the aboriginals themselves. And if a significant majority of them are fine with it, than there's not a need to change it. So that's why when these teams do these investigations, they're likely getting enough to support to justify keeping the name since it's not a term that's meant to be used in a offensive context.
The only team that probably should have their names changed are the Washington Redskins, and the Cleveland Indians. Those are ones that I could imagine may not have that much support within the aboriginal community.
