The Pittsburgh Penguins have moved both Ray Emery and Vesa Toskala in separate deals.

In the first deal we sent Ray Emery and prospect Kyle Medvec to Phoenix for the Coyotes 2010 1st round pick, defenseman Kevin Klein, and 4.75 million in cap space for the upcoming season. We know that if the 1st doesn't turn out to be a good pick we are gonna look bad in this one, but the Coyotes are making a lot of improvements to their roster that will make them much more of a threat in 2010-11 more so then next year, and we feel that this pick should land us a solid pick. Klein is a solid young defensemen who should be available to provide us depth on the blueline for next season. We were offered a couple better assets in deals but the cap space made this deal the best option for us as we are building to be a contender, whereas the Yotes are looking to the future and didn't need as much cap as what we need.

The second deal was with the Florida Panthers, it saw us send Toskala along with a 2nd round pick in exchange for defenseman Pavel Kubina, goaltending prospect Leland Irving, and a 1st round pick. This deal made sense for us as we restocked the goaltending pipeline, upgraded a draft pick and added a solid veteran defenseman to our roster; while the Panthers added a legitimate starting goaltender.
