If you can avoid it, it would be smart to avoid it. Why would you want to spend your vacation in the region that's devastated? Unless you do wish to volunteer and help out, of course.

We were in a similar dilemma two years ago after St.Martin was hit with non-refundable tickets and AirBnB reservation. However, WestJet was super-nice about it and exchanged our tickets without re-booking penalties to another destination and our AirBnB host just canceled our booking without an argument and without a penalty.
