It gets slow before the Timemachine backup starts.
I think it's the competing IP addresses as that's the an error I'm getting when running TVMOBiLi on my Mac to my Samsung (for video streaming).
I've somewhat resolved the issue by plugging the the iMac directly into the wall and the external drive directly to it and connecting to the Time Capsule via wifi.
The backups won't be as quick as wired but at least the downloads to the computer will be quicker.
