Kreese didn't know what he got with Silver til the end, but he grabbed a psychotic tiger by the tail. For some reason the kids in Kobra Kai were a lot more sympathetic then the kids in Myagi. In fact for the most part Sam and the others were complete jerks. Johnny is still a sad story, while he really tries he can't get out of his own way.
