When I first moved to Canada I had this naive idea that racial profiling doesn't happen here like it does in the States, that Canadian society is better than that, but that was put to bed by an African co-worker who told me he got pulled over all the time for driving his expensive car (Jag) home after a night shift.
I don't want to solely bag on cops though. Some do a great job. We had a potentially dangerous situation on our street a few nights ago where a neighbour locked himself in his house threatening to harm himself (I believe there was a gun involved) and the police handled it all very calmly and professionally until it was thankfully defused safely.
