I still think the issue for the Flames isn't defence so much as offence.

The Oilers have been very consistent against the Flames this year, scoring 5, 5, 1, 5, 6, 5 in their six games against the Flames so far. Basically, the Oilers are good for 5 goals against the Flames every game, so the Flames need to play unrelenting offence with the aim of potting at least 6 goals per game. This strikes me as way more doable than holding Edmonton to 2 or less every game, particularly without Taney. Plus the only time McDavid is a non-factor is when he's on the Oilers half of the rink. So make him defend by keeping up a strong forecheck and playing simple defence clearing the zone quickly.
