I mean it's obvious that Jarome Iginla never had a player even close to Johnny Gaudreau on his line. Every opposition player keyed in on Iginla, he would fight through it and make something happen. Johnny Gaudreau is the player that gets keyed on now. Monahan has benefitted on that and the vision on Gaudreaus passes. To not recognize what a huge difference that
one fact alone makes a real comparison hard to gauge.

To his credit Monahan definitely has an elite release and accuracy to his shot. If it's anywhere in his wheelhouse he is going to make the most of it. Johnny can get it there sometimes in ridiculous fashion. Monahan knows to always be ready. It's great chemistry. Unfortunately good coaching and tight checking by Colorado nullified him in the playoffs. Where Jarome would have powered through, Monahan simply doesnt have the natural drive, compete or physical style to play a series in that way.
