From all the f1 stuff I've been reading I believe HAAS has always planned to write this season off and concentrate all their efforts into the 2022 car. The idea is they go as the Ferrari engine goes this year. If the Powerplant has recouped from last season then they're happy. That wasn't the 21 car either it was a readied 20. They still have to do all the regulatory changes to this year's car.
