Arrrrghh! This is endemic in TV performances by rock / pop stars in that era because the producers were only concerned about capturing the artist's performance instead of the concert experience. Hence, studio audiences were told to sit down, shut up and don't distract from the performance. This is Deep Purple MkII doing Child In Time. Gillan and the band rip the roof off the joint and the crowd looks like they've all been tazed into submission, or they've taken waaay too many 'ludes. Blame producers that didn't get the live concert milieu.
