I think the zeitgeist of past times come and go like cycles. About 15 to 20 years ago, there seemed to be a real trend of 70s power pop (Big Star, Cheap Trick, Badfinger, etc) coming back. There was the New Pornographers, Sloan (particularly the Between the Bridges album), The Figgs, Supergrass, The Flashing Lights, Fountains of Wayne, that theme song to The 70s Show, etc. And then there was the freak folk (Devendra Banhart, CocoRose, Joanna Newsom, Akron/Family, etc.) trend five to ten years ago. We probably won't know if this current trend has legs until 5 or 10 years down the road.
