I had a buddy a long while ago who went and played in England in the 80's.

Pretty good gig. He and IIRC 2 other guys from Canada were given room and board and a europass. Not paid huge money but decent and had almost zero overhead.

They would play Friday and Saturday nights, leave on the train to where ever in Europe from Sunday til Wednesday while the rest of the team practiced, practice on Thursday and then start the cycle over again.

I think he scored 200 points in 50 games over 3 seasons.
