The line over passed the puck or had some back luck with pucks hitting defenders stick shafts, but I wouldn't say the puck was dying on his stick at all.

Agreed, Backlund is one of the teams best players on the team for zone entries with the puck. He has an ability to carry it in without losing the puck and holding it to dish off when the others enter the offensive zone. He is not the third line centre on this team.
