Nick Schneider gets the start in goal for the Mavericks 10th Season Home Opener tonight against the Allen Americans.

Not the smoothest game of hockey to start tonight against the Americans. Lots of slipping and sliding, missed checks and shots going anywhere but to the net. But that didn't stop Rocco Carzo from getting the first goal of the season for the Mavericks just 4 minutes into the game. Schneider got most of his action on the pk in the opening frame but holds his own and stops all Allen shots that come his way in the first 10 minutes. A partial break at 13:12 changes that when he slides out of his crease a little too soon and the puck slips over his shoulder. The Mavericks slip a puck in the net in the last couple of minutes but the post comes off and the referee waves it off. Shots end at 11-7 for the Mavericks after 20 minutes of play.

The Mavs get their period started with another waved off goal. A group of them chipped at a lose puck in front of the net but the whistle beat the puck over the line. The Mavs are able to get their first power play of the night off an Allen tripping call but it is cut short when Rocco Carzo is sent to the box for hooking. As a result, they are short-handed for just over a minute. In their second power play opportunity they find themselves in a 5 on 3 situation and as the first power play expires, Llyodminister native, David Dziurzynski scores the 2nd goal of the night. Then coinciding penalties creates a 4 on 4 situtation where Justin Breton rips a shot off the draw that finds the back of the net. Then Jared VanWormer and Mark Cooper glide down to the zone on a 2 on 1 and VanWormer sets Cooper up for Mavs goal #4! They finish the 2nd period outshooting the Americans 32-16 and leading 4-1.

The third period starts a little dry with no shots until 3 minutes in. About a quarter of the way through the period Jared VanWormer finds himself on the front step and chips the puck just over the Allen goalies glove for Mavs goal #5. Jordan Ernst draws a massive penalty from a hot headed Allen player that gets the other guy to leave the game and a 4 minute powerplay to end off the last 5 minutes of the game. Mavs finished by outshooting the Americans 43-21 and winning 5-1!
