He still has huge ratings though. So this narrative of "droves" switching channels is simply untrue.
If he didn't bring the eyeballs he does, he would have been toast long ago. That's how the business works.
Not sure how his age has anything to do with it....if he can keep viewers locked on for the commercials, he can be 115 for all they care.
This looks more like a cost-cutting measure like they have been doing since year 2 of the deal they signed that they are having trouble showing profit on.
