I guess this is the year then. You can't negotiate a year to year contract and then complain when it's not renewed.
I suspect they will bring him back for some sort of tribute.
Was Maher on a year to year contract as well? Because if so, there's no such thing as "notice". And if not, you get severance in lieu of notice.
