It’s the same situation they were in 4 years ago and 8 years ago, and only tripped their way into it rather than winning games they needed to win. They lost the games hey needed to win until they got to the point they were able to play games they couldn’t lose. No building has been happening, more like a managed decline while the likes of the USA and Uruguay are building. It’s unlikely repechage will ever be easier than it was this year, so qualifying for future Word Cups will only get harder.
Who knows where the funding is going, but it’s not being spent well.
