Who's this trying to target? He's not good looking enough to attract ladies, but not weird enough to get people to laugh and take it lighthearted.
Also what bugs me is the Nissan commercial with "God" walking in. Not so much that cheesy angle, but the "we're trying to be current and hip so lets put a Starbucks cup of coffee in the salesman's hand" tacked on gimmick.

The Kia one is playing off of Flashdance...if you know the movie it can be kind of funny. The other you mention is sad though.
