Sony says they sold over 1 million units on launch day with an estimated 0.4% failure/defect rate.
That's 4000 units with defects. If only 10% of those people reported failures across social media/internet, that'd be 400 complaints in the first day which stand out regardless of the other 996,000 good consoles out there.
