Butcher doesn't come across as totally good to me. His story is good on a superficial level. Evil man rapes his wife. He just wants her back.
But the more they get into it, the more it seems like Butcher is motivated by his own ego and doesn't really seem to actually care about what his ex wife wants or any of the people around him. He seems to really to control his ex wife more than make her happy.
