It’s not the Flames hockey you want to watch in May but at least it’ll help pass the time until the draft.

The tournament is being held in Slovakia, so fans of morning and afternoon hockey can expect a lot of it.

One bit of Flames related news so far:

I suppose he can take this one off after leading the Swedes to victory in last year’s tourney

Aside from Backlund, the following Flames players may attend

Canada
Monahan
Smith
Brodie
Giordano
Hamonic
Mangiapane
Jankowski
Bennett
Dubé

USA
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Hanifin
Ryan

Sweden
Lindholm
Kylington
Andersson
Fantenberg

Finland
Valimaki

Czech Republic
Frolik
Rittich

Slovakia
Ruzicka
Pospisil

Most of these guys are longshots, but I could reasonably see 4 or 5 attendees as opposed to the 3 that Calgary sent last year. Personally I’m really hoping Bennett, Kylington, and Andersson get invites. Hopefully Gio goes as well, but he has turned them down in the past.

I’m very interested to see if Brady and Matt Tkachuk end up both going for the USA, have them flank a Larkin or Eichel and that could be something to watch.

Russia should be be the team to beat with Malkin and Kucherov but there’s always some good stories and it should be a great tournament.
