They're using the fifa rankings as the qualifying criteria. So friendlies count now. If Canada had been more active with friendlies and won a few they'd probably be in the top 6, the margins are so tight.
Surprise - the last 3 years of games of non-WCQ games were super important!
As it stands with Canada in one of the toughest group at nations league and teams like Honduras with a way easier road and head start in the points, Canada is almost already effectively eliminated IMO. They basically need to win their group at nations league and beat the US or we can already start thinking about 2026. And odds of beating the US are astronomical for this program.
It's amazing that Canada's WCQ 2022 is pretty much over before it even started. Even by Canada's standards this is a new low.
