Players graduate from the AHL to the NHL all the time so I don't think you can just label a guy like that.
I don't know about the confidence issue as a reason. Dube has to learn to score and produce as a professional. There is a progression in all forms of learning. Some people can jump through levels but he looks like a guy who could use some time in a slightly slower game to work on the finer points of learning how to score. And it might not hurt for him to mature physically a little more too.
If sending him down crushes his confidence, then I worry about the effect of multiple injuries and extended goalless streaks on his confidence just as much.
