To safeguard themselves from financial/economic ruin when there's only one path in the world to take. Unilateral sanctions applied by the shining beacon of democracy and freedom is only good for the 30% ish of the world's population. The majority of the world has seen enough evidence based on history that it's not a good idea, as you just never know when things turn, and so, support the other option that is now available.
