I have studded tires on one of my vehicles. They do provide a little bit more bite on ice and black ice I find. We get a lot of freezing and thawing in Calgary, as you know, so that’s where they excel. They won’t do anything on snow.

You will notice more noise and vibration at first. Eventually they get quieter, but are still more noisy than non-studded tires. It was $25/tire to add studs, so the cost was nominal.

I don’t regret getting them and may consider getting them on my other vehicle when those tires need replacing, but that’s a few years off.
