It will more likely be a wimper because it will be something like this;
1st we found a gas that we think is a bio signature
2nd we confirm its definately that gas
3rd we find other bio signatures
4th we find some kind of strange chemical that might be described as life, but doesnt look like a cell with dna or rna in it, its something else
5th we have a decade long debate over weather or not to qualify this exact thing as biology or chemistry.
6th 25 years from yesterday we announce that it is definately probably life, and everyone shrugs saying thats old new.
Its just the speed science moves at, subsiquent discoveries will get faster and faster, but it always takes a lot to confirm the first occurance.
