And it's not as simple as showing them the lock, receipt and missing bike and waiting for the cheque. Most of them you have to submit it to your home insurance policy and then they'll pay for amounts not covered. If you have $1,000 coverage on your bike, and your deductible is $500, and your bike is worth $1,000, your home insurance company will give you $500 and the lock will give you nothing. Your insurance will likely go up for the next year too.

I use locks, but I'm guessing I'll never make a claim with the company, even if my bike gets stolen.
