This is an argument for Forever a Flame, FWIW. You have 3 retired, 5 will be, plus you have a couple other d-men would had higher numbers that could be retired (and this would have impacted 2-8 under your plan).
I can't think of a great centre with number 9. Richard, Howe, Hull, Lanny, Modano, Kariya were all wingers.
