Spoiler!
The other question is were they being specist by imposing their morals.
If there really existed a society that only had one female born every 75 years there would likely be no prejudice against that gender or even the concept that gender would exist. So it wouldn't be converting a female into a male. It would be much akin to the cleft palet example. In that culture there is no second gender. I think they made a mistake in the show having the lawyer go with weaker and less intelligent. As that doesn't make sense for something so rare.
It's only through the human lens that this behaviour becomes abhorent. It assumes that two genders is normal.
However given the fact that we had 3 females born within 50 years that seems like they under report female births and the fact that they have procedures and norms for when this happens suggests it is much more common and then the behaviour of eliminating a gender becomes abhorrent
They do need to come up with different Deud Ex Mechina then 21st century TV though. And in that clay mation Rudolph there is the fantastical sexist line of You Dows stay here This is man's work which is ironic given the episode theme.
I think this show is really just a continuation of the spirit of next generation with modern humour. As next gen and the original series all had humour centred around the human condition this just extends that to imperfect humans.
