put tinfoil over the grates. Turn Grill on high. Leave for about fifteen minutes. Everything will turn to ash. Simply brush each grate, remove and sweep out remaining ash. Get the shop vac to remove final ash.

don't leave grill on too long or you can seize the valves. Just wait until the grates start turning grey.

I have had a vermont casting VCS 5 burner for 11 years. It has been so good to me.
